Our Story:
From Shetland to Nottingham

Most great journeys start with a dream — but rarely with a 7-day work week and 18-hour shifts. Yet that’s exactly how the story of Gurkha Kitchen began.
In 1997, our founder opened his first restaurant in Shetland, fuelled by passion, determination, and the simple hope of building a better life. For three relentless years, he lived almost entirely inside his kitchen, working day and night to turn that small dream into something real. Back then, he couldn’t afford a motorcycle of his own; he used to pose on a friend’s Harley Davidson just to feel the thrill of what might someday be possible.
Decades later, that “someday” became reality. Through grit and perseverance, he went on to own multiple remarkable motorcycles and even built one of the world’s largest custom bikes — a machine as bold as the journey that inspired it.
After 13 successful years in Shetland, he and his wife moved to Nottingham in 2010, ready for a new chapter. Today, Gurkha Kitchen stands as the culmination of that lifelong pursuit: a place where hard work meets heart, and where authentic Nepalese flavours continue to bring people together.
